Company News : Company makes quick work of house fire.
on 2011/7/29 0:00:10 (624 reads)

At approximately 4:15 PM the company was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Harbor Rd in the Shelter Cover section of East Dover. Among the first arriving units was District Chief 1-100. Upon arrival he advised he had a working fire, which prompted an automatic dispatch of a general alarm bringing in additional resources to extinguish the fire. Engine 2811 was first due and stretched an 1.75" hand line through the front door and initiated an aggressive interior attack. Engine 5311 was second due and, due to the lack of hydrants in the area, set up a draft from a nearby lagoon to establish a water supply for Engine 2811. Meanwhile interior crews located the seat of the fire and made a quick knock down, while exterior crews began ventilation. Crews then overhauled the structure to ensure there was no further extension. Apparatus was placed back into service after the fire was extinguished. The East Dover Fire Company was assisted by the Island Heights Fire Company, Toms River Fire Companies 1 & 2, Silverton Fire Company, Pleasant Plains Fire Company, Toms River Police, and Toms River Police EMS. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Open in new windowAt approximately 07:45, on the hottest day of the year to date, the company's pagers activated for a general alarm strip mall fire, located on Rt 166. Since the fire was in the coverage area of Toms River Fire Company's No. 1 & 2 2865 was the fast team. The crew from 2865 setup the equipment necessary for their assignment and stood at the ready on the Alpha side of the structure, while an additional FAST team from another company was at the ready on the Charlie side of the structure. Crews worked within the structure to gain control of the fire, which was eluding them in the cock loft of the structure. With the aid of more than two dozen fire companies and nearly 200 personnel the fire was brought under control shortly before 10:30. By this time temperatures were well into the 90's with high humidity, plus the weight of the firefighting equipment and the additional heat of the fire, all working together to quickly tire working firefighters. Due to this an EMS Task Force responded and setup an elaborate rehab area, complete with shade, misting fans, water, and EMT's to evaluate firefighters. Berkeley Twp HAZMAT team responded to the scene to take air quality samples due to the vehicle repair garage, located in the strip mall, that was affected by the fire. 2865 cleared the scene at 12:30 and returned to the station to place their equipment back in service. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Company News : 2nd Alarm Request Into Island Heights
on 2011/5/15 8:20:00 (603 reads)

At 0529 the stations pagers went off for a 2nd alarm request for mutual aid into Island Heights for a working house fire. The second alarm brought in Ladder 2865 and Engine 2811 from The East Dover Fire Company as well as 2 engines and a ladder from The Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 & 2 to assist the Island Heights Fire Company. Due to rapidly deteriorating conditions caused by heavy fire in the basement and "Colliers Mansion" conditions, units were directed to evacuate and commence a defensive attack until the bulk of the fire could be knocked down. Crews soon made reentry to complete extinguishment and perform overhaul. There were no injuries reported and units operated for several hours before the scene was turned over to investigators.
