On Februrary 5th 2009 the Toms River Fire Company's Number 1 and 2 were both dispatched for a working structure fire. Dispatch advised the first responding chief that it was reported to be a fully involved kitchen fire and that all occupants had been accounted for. During the response units had advised that they had a large column of smoke visible from a decent distance. Upon arrival, the first officer, reported that he had a heavily involved 2.5 story wood frame single family dwelling and requested the first due engine to go in service with an 1.75" line. The East Dover Fire Company's crew stood by as the rit team. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down but all companies were engaged in extensive overhaul for a long period of time. Both of the neighboring structures were evacuated due to exposure problems. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. Assistance was provided by the East Dover Fire Company, Silverton Fire Company, Pleasant Plains Fire Company, Toms River First Aid, Toms River Police, Ocean County Fire Coordinators, and the Toms River Department of Public Works also responded with a salt truck due to icing problems.
