FIRE SERVICE EXPLORING
Firefighting is one of the worlds most honored but hazardous occupations. It is the duty of every fire dept to save lives and to reduce injuries and property losses. By becoming an Explorer/Firefighter an individual joins a profession that is rich in heritage of dedication, unselfish sacrifice, and inspired human action. An Explorer/Firefighter performs no greater service that coming to the aid of others. An Explorer/Firefighter requires a high sense of personal dedication, a genuine desire to help people and a high level of skill.
Fire Exploring gives young people a valuable insight to the firefighting profession. This insight will allow the individual to decide whether or not he or she desires to pursue a greater role in the fire service. By participating in the fire explorer program. The individual will gain personal confidence, learn how to use various tools, develop mechanical skills and aptitude and gain a greater awareness of personal and fire safety
Each Explorer will be exposed to all types of operations which are handled by the East Dover Fire Co #4 station 28. Each Explorer Firefighter will be involved with hands on training addressing all operations of the fire dept in a controlled training environment. As part of this post the explorers will assist with the performance of firefighting duties around the station. These duties may include public fire education and other fire department projects. Also training activities and other ancillary functions on a fire or emergency incident.
THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES WILL NOT BE PREFORMED BY ANY EXPLORER MEMBERS
At all times may not be substituted for a trained firefighter (NFPA 1001)
May not drive or operate any apparatus
May not climb any ground ladders that exceed 35 feet
May not enter any Hot Zone on any incident
May not operate any gas, hydraulic and electrical powered equipment
